DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Ultra Tech Horticultural Vermiculite can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your gardening experience. We recommend using at least 25% vermiculite.
Here are some directions for its use:
potting mixes: A blend of one-part vermiculite with one-part peat moss and one-part compost or bark is an ideal blend. This creates an optimal environment for container or raised bed gardening. In a large container or bucket, combine the vermiculite with the peat moss, compost or bark. If you are using coconut coir and perille, add these as well. Thoroughly mix the ingredients together until they are well blended. Break up any clumps and ensure an even distribution of vermiculite throughout the mix. Pot your plants, fill your container or raised bed with the potting mix that you've prepared. Plant your transplant as you normally would
For seed starting: Choose a seed tray, seedling pots, or a shallow container with drainage holes at the bottom. This ensures excess water can drain away. Fill your container with a blend of least 25% vermiculite, mixed with Peat Moss and Perlite. It will create a well-balanced substrate. You can also add a layer of vermiculite as a top dressing. Gently sprinkle a thin layer (about 1/8 to 1/4 inch) of vermiculite evenly over the surface of the potting mix. Sow your seeds on the surface of the potting blend or vermiculite top later, some seeds need to be lightly pressed into the vermiculite while others should be left on the surface. Water thoroughly after sowing the seeds. You can use a spray bottle or gentle watering to avoid disturbing the seeds. Make sure the blend is moist, but not waterlogged Some seeds benefit from a clear plastic cover or a plastic dome to create a mini greenhouse effect. Once the seeds have sprouted, remove the cover to prevent mold or dampening off. Different plant species have different temperature and light requirements for germination. Check the specific guidelines for the seeds you are growing. Once the seedlings have developed true leaves and are large enough to handle, you can transplant them into larger pots or directly into your garden.
For Root cuttings: Take healthy, disease free plants which you want to propagate using the root cuttings. Using clean gardening tools, cut sections of the plant's roots. Typically, 2-4 inch long cuttings, depending on the plant species. Choose small pots or containers with drainage holes at the bottom to prevent water logging. Fill the containers with vermiculite, leaving some space on the top for root cuttings. Insert the root cuttings into the vermiculite, making sure they are buried to the appropriate depth. Generally, you want the cuttings to be covered with vermiculite but not buried too deeply. Water the vermiculite thoroughly after planting to ensure good moisture contact with the cuttings. After the root cuttings have developed a good root system, you can transplant them into your garden or larger pots. When using vermiculite with root cuttings, it can help provide a suitable environment for roots to develop and establish new plants.
